1.4418, a stainless steel grade that has been widely used in recent years, is generally known by the code 1.4057, but there are differences between it and stainless steel in this code in terms of its properties. Based on its chemical properties, 1.4418, which is a stainless steel between 630 (1.4542) quality stainless steel and 431 (1.4057) quality stainless steel, has more advantages in terms of mechanical properties.
Our company can make 1.4418 grade stainless steel stronger and harder by subjecting it to a second heat treatment application according to demand after subjecting it to QT900 heat treatment.
1.4418 grade stainless steel, which is advantageous in terms of its ability to maintain its mechanical properties despite the weakening of temperature conditions, draws attention with its ability to maintain its performance compared to its counterparts even at sea water temperature close to zero degrees. Due to this feature, it is especially preferred for cold working environments.
Corrosion Resistance (* * * *)
As a result of its chemical properties, the corrosion resistance of 1.4418 grade stainless steel is close to the corrosion resistance levels of grades such as 304 and 630.
Mechanical Properties (* * * * * * *)
Grade 1.4418 material is similar to grade 630 (1.4542) in terms of mechanical properties. This material is a pre-hardened material (QT900) and is a very durable material in terms of mechanical properties.
Malleability (* * *)
Although 1.4418 grade stainless steel does not show a good performance in terms of forgeability, it is not recommended for use in forging processes.
Weldability Feature (* * *)
Since it is a steel quality with a low carbon ratio, it is a stainless steel that is not difficult to weld.
Machinability Feature (* * *)
1.4418 grade stainless steel comes out hardened by heat treatment in the factory where it is produced and its surface is harder compared to other stainless steels with standard specifications. Although its superficial structure is very hard in this respect, the processing process is not very difficult.
When we consider it in terms of usage area, 1.4418 quality stainless steel has a wide range. Since it is advantageous in terms of price, it is a strong alternative to 630 quality stainless steel in shaft manufacturing. Although its corrosion resistance is the same as 630 quality, it is preferred as a close substitute of 630 quality with its mechanical properties.
It is known as a frequently preferred steel quality, especially in environments where mechanical properties must maintain their strength under various conditions. For this reason, it is widely used in places where mechanical strength is required even when the temperature is very low, such as ship shafts, high speed shafts.
