Stainless Shaft

Stainless Shaft

In recent years, stainless steel products have been preferred across many industries due to their functionality, durability, aesthetics, and health benefits as a material. Steel is produced by adding chromium and carbon to iron. This product, combined with chromium and nickel, is known as stainless steel. Like other stainless products, stainless shafts are special-sized products with high corrosion resistance and their usage areas are rapidly expanding.

At Karaca, quality is not an option for any product group; it is a standard. All products in our stainless steel group are offered for sale with the highest level of customer satisfaction as the goal, thanks to advanced technology and expertise. As Karaca Paslanmaz, we are competitive in the bar rod product group, in addition to other groups, relying solely on domestic capital. The stainless rods we sell, produced to high standards at Karaca Paslanmaz, are used across various fields such as the food industry, manufacturing, construction, defense, and more.

Applications of Stainless Shafts

Stainless shafts are frequently used in the food industry as structural support in machinery and as parts during motor production processes. They are also utilized as supports in stainless equipment and cabinets. Our world-class 304-grade stainless shafts are used in industries such as petrochemicals, automotive, shipbuilding, kitchen manufacturing, food production, defense, and chemical industries. Grade 304 is the most widely used type of stainless steel.

In the kitchen industry, many well-known brands prefer Karaca Paslanmaz products. Stainless products are commonly found in many food production facilities due to their easy maintenance and health benefits. From the cutlery on our table to major industrial facilities, stainless steel products are widely used. The food industry is one of the primary sectors due to its sterile nature.

Due to demand in recent years, stainless products have also found an increased use in architectural details in the construction sector. Stainless shafts are often used in structural elements such as stair railings, safety bars, and window guards.

Production of Stainless Shafts

Stainless shaft products are high-resistance, special hardened steel products increasingly used across various industries. The shafts in Karaca Paslanmaz’s sales portfolio are made by shaping and processing stainless rod materials using advanced technology. Stainless steel shafts, produced in long strips, are obtained through rolling or extrusion processes.

Production with a diameter under 5 mm is referred to as steel wire. Extrusion involves pushing metal with force through a predetermined mold to reshape it. This term is used in our country's metallurgy sector for pipe manufacturing, rod production, and wire drawing.

Extrusion can be done as either a cold or hot process. In hot processing, materials take their final shape with less force.

Stainless shaft products are manufactured as solid round shafts, hexagonal shafts, and solid square shafts. For stainless round shafts, rolling and drawing methods are used. This product group is produced in various cross-sections and lengths according to customer and industry needs.

Types of Stainless Steel Quality

Different grades of stainless steel products are available in the industry. Stainless shaft production is categorized as austenitic, martensitic, and ferritic. Our products are manufactured in AISI 304, AISI 316L, and AISI 316 grades. During production, ASTM A484, ASTM A484M, and ASTM A274 standards are utilized.

Iron is one of the most abundant elements in nature, ranking fourth among minerals found on Earth. Its easy formability and availability make iron widely used across various industries.

Adding carbon (2%) and chromium (10%) to iron increases its hardness and durability. When these two elements are added to iron, it becomes steel. The transition of steel to stainless steel is achieved with chromium and nickel.

The features of 304-grade stainless steel, the most commonly used in the industry, are as follows:

  • Consists of 18% chromium and 8% nickel.
  • It is non-magnetic and does not exhibit magnetic properties; quality control can be easily done with a magnet.
  • Belongs to the austenitic group and is the most commonly used stainless steel product.
  • It is hygienic and can be safely used in the health and food sectors.
  • It is formable, weldable, and can be shaped cold.
  • Resistant to corrosion but not suitable for heat treatment.

Characteristics of Stainless Shaft Products

Since stainless shaft products are used across a broad range of fields, corrosion resistance should not be compromised. Corrosion occurs when metal reacts with oxygen in the air. Simply put, if the surface of the shaft does not come into contact with air, it will not corrode. Unless chromium is added to iron, the surface will quickly undergo rust.

With the addition of chromium to stainless products, a very thin chromium-oxide layer forms, protecting the underlying layer from rust. The chromium-oxide layer completely prevents the underlying metal from coming into contact with air.

Stainless rod products have a high recycling rate, generally around 60%. The highest quality stainless steel rods are used in the defense industry. This grade is also preferred for ships and boats continuously exposed to water and air.
