One of the members of the stainless steel family developed for the Russian and German markets, 321 grade stainless steel is also known as 1.4541 grade. On the other hand, this stainless steel, also known as X6CrNiTi18-10 in the engineering field, is one of the twenty stainless steels that are widely used. Structurally, 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel, which has a corrosion resistance above average, provides its users with an advantage in heat with its resistance to high temperatures. On the other hand, the corrosion resistance and heat resistance it provides for its price are largely effective in the appreciation of the material. 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel is like the brother of a familiar component. Like 316 Ti, 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel also contains titanium. In this context, it would not be wrong to say that this material is a version of 304 grade stainless steel made more resistant to corrosion and temperature by adding titanium. 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel, which has advantages in temperature resistance, shows good resistance up to 800 degrees, but it is not recommended to operate at a temperature above this level. Like 31 grade stainless steel, it should not be tested at 1100 degrees.
Corrosion Resistance (* * *)
321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel, which has many similarities with 304 grade stainless steel, has reached a higher corrosion resistance structure through 0.7% titanium among its components. When we consider that 304 grade has been developed in addition to its standard features, it can be understood that its corrosion and temperature resistance is quite high. Nevertheless, 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel, which is not suitable for extremely corrosive environments, is considered suitable for many environments in daily life. Generally, 310 or 310 S grade stainless steel is preferred in environments where temperature conditions are extremely high.
Mechanical Properties (* * *)
321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel, which is similar to 304 grade stainless steel in terms of mechanical structure, does not offer a very high mechanical advantage in general. Considering its mechanical properties, 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel, which is still one of the most preferred materials in the world, has a resistance as good as other steels of the austenitic stainless steel group.
Malleability (* * *)
Grade 321 (1.4541) stainless steel is often not considered suitable for forging. Because forging without fulfilling certain conditions can cause deformations in the material. In this respect, in order for 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel to be forged well, the process must be carried out at temperatures of 1975-1125 degrees.
Weldability (* * * * * * *)
321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel, which is similar to 316 Ti in terms of welding properties, provides a good result in terms of weldability performance when the right electrodes are preferred.
Machinability Characteristic (*)
In general, 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel is a material with sufficient machinability, but it is advantageous to prefer 303 or 430 F grades in environments where the machining process is high. On the other hand, 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel whose content is homogeneously distributed and extracted as a result of a good production will not create a problem in machinability.
In cases where both high temperature conditions and friction environment are in question, 321 (1.4541) grade stainless steel can be easily preferred. However, it should not be forgotten that the temperature should not exceed 800 degrees. On the other hand, 321 (1.4541) quality stainless steel, which is an advantageous material in terms of cost, proves its adequacy with the features it offers. In this respect, this material is mostly used in machinery manufacturing, mechanical material parts, chemical machinery and parts production. In addition, with its affordable price; It is a material used extensively in food production lines, bolt products, screws and parts of transportation vehicles.

321 stainless is coded as 1.4541 grade stainless in EN standards.
Grade 321 stainless is also coded as X6CrNiTi18-10 in EN standards.
This stainless quality is in the austenitic stainless group.
Stainless of this grade is non-magnetized, but shows good corrosion resistance.
321 quality stainless can be operated at temperatures up to 800 degrees while maintaining its mechanical properties.
This stainless steel quality, whose internal structure is similar to 304 quality; It differs from 304 with the titanium present in its content. Titanium makes the steel resistant to higher temperatures and resistant to corrosion.
At extremely high temperatures, 310 and 310 S grades of steel should be preferred instead of 321 quality stainless steel. On the other hand, 310 and 310S quality stainless steels are produced in our company in accordance with European standards and prepared in the best way for high temperatures.
In which cases is this grade preferable to 321 stainless?
316 Ti: Structurally, 321 and 316 Ti stainless steels have similar properties. These two stainless steel grades, which have many common chemical properties, can also be an alternative to each other at some point. 316 Ti, which differs in terms of molybdenum, performs more successfully in corrosion resistance compared to 321. In this sense, if a material is preferred for an environment where high corrosion resistance is sought, 316 Ti is a good alternative to 321. Our company's stainless steels in both grades are of European origin and have a wide range of products.
310 / 310S: Although 321 grade stainless steel has a high resistance to temperature resistance compared to many other steels, 310 and 310 S grade stainless steels can work even at 1100 degrees without losing their mechanical properties and showing corrosion resistance. On the other hand, 321 grade stainless steel can lose its mechanical properties at temperatures higher than 800 degrees. For this reason, another alternative to 321 grade stainless steel is 310 and 310 S. In our company, 310 quality stainless steel is offered for sale with a product range ranging in diameter from 5mm to 100mm.
It is included in the austenitic group because it contains titanium at a higher rate than carbon. It is at the same level with other steels in terms of corrosion resistance. It is structurally similar to 304 quality steel. Since the chromium carbide precipitate is stabilized with titanium, corrosion between grains is not common. The processing temperature is around 450- 850 °C. It shows very high mechanical properties and friction resistance.
Due to its low hardening and thermal conductivity, it is suitable for the use of high quality fast carbide tools for machining. It gives excellent results in all welds except gas melting. There is no need for light treatment after welding. The color change that occurs after welding can be removed with a mechanical or chemical application. Areas of use are more preferred in the chemical industry, film and photography, apparatus construction, manufacturing of warehouses, fitting production. Since it is a type of steel with high toughness, it can also be worked at low temperatures.
Like all steels, it is available in the market as hot or cold rolled, in the form of plates, rods, sheets and profiles.
